The week of Jade: boyish chic-ed out.

You've heard read me talk about Jade several times now - 'cause she pretty much just rules. And, she dresses the boyish chic style so well: here in a Nirvana tee, ripped jeans & tie up wedges. We did her custom necklace shoot in the Watchung Reservation (a huge park with forests & trails nearby our hometown) & ended up at her house for her everyday look. Jade's house has this barn charm to it - it's really beautiful.

Yep, she's gorgeous. Thanks for letting me take some shots, Jade!
We'll have to do it again in the future... like tomorrow.
After photo shoot grub at Tito's Burritos... yum.

Custom design & my girl, Jade.

As some of you may know, I have my own design, jewelry & apparel company called my Remedy. Every so often, I get crazy lucky & am able to create a custom piece for someone. This time, it was for my amazing friend, Jade. Usually, it takes me some time to sit & think over what I'll design for someone, but for Jade, it came to me immediately...

Her faith means the world to her so I wanted to incorporate the cross into this design. Jade's also a cowgirl at heart so I knew I wanted to use colors that resemble the midwest; cue the turquoise & white howlite and the gold. Jade's no ordinary lady, so to give the necklace a unique appeal, I made it asymmetrical & tiered. I truly loved creating this piece for Jade & she looks stunning in it!

Absolute favorite photo of Jade.

What I wore behind the camera...

I'd LOVE to create a jewelry piece (necklace, bracelet, earrings...) made uniquely for YOU. To order a custom piece, please email me at myRemedydesign@gmail.com. Price vary based on materials & intricacy of design. Check out more of my designs here!

Guest Post: Kaitlyn's Wishlist

So psyched that my amazing friend, Kaitlyn Carpenter sent over her spring wishlist. You may remember Kaitlyn from my Minneapolis trip last year (part 1, part 2 & one skirt; two ways).

She's currently a designer for Target & her style is always inspiring, edgy & effortless. She's got the boyish chic style down. Check out her current top trends & thoughts about them:

"I love clothing pieces that have that “borrowed from the boys” appeal, especially when they have a hard edge to them. Pairing these types of items with more feminine pieces i.e. crochet, lace, florals is the best of both worlds.

Along this line of thought, pairing a moto or utility jacket with an ethereal type dress is a great way to dress down a dress or fem-up a masculine coat (See Items 1, 2, & 4).

Another one of my favorite wardrobe staples is the boyfriend shirt – it looks sexy and sophisticated and is incredibly versatile.  I like layering mine over dresses, skirts, and skinny bottoms and tying the shirt tails in to a cutesy little knot (See Item #3…with #2 or #6).

Next, Colored bottoms + Mint = RAD.  A colored bottom looks fantastic paired with a classic tee (See Item # 6).

As for accessorizing here are my go to’s: Any shoe that channels my inner rebel – think leather, studs, buckles etc.  – this takes your look to that next level. (I’m madly in love with Item # 5 – but had to settle for Steve Madden’s more wallet friendly Veniicee Platform Sandal ).

Lastly, lipstick is an accessory that can transform any look by adding that extra hit of color and femininity.  I’m looking for a great shade of orange or pale pink (See Item #7).  Since starting this post I couldn’t stop myself - I caved and purchased #1, Zara’s “Combined Sleeve Jacket”, stay tuned to see how I style it with my existing wardrobe!"

Really loving these picks & trends. Thanks,  Kaitlyn! <3.

mia.

Been a little MIA - took a mini vacation to Massachusetts (beautiful place) & have been working hard to prepare for setting up my Remedy shop at the Bust Magazine Craftacular in Soho, NYC this Saturday. It's a day of vendors with tons of sweet handmade stuff - if you've got spring shopping fever, you should come (Facebook event here)!

I got the above shirt in San Francisco while I was living there last summer; it has a lot of nostalgia for me. I love its detailing of lace on the shoulders & it's edgy asymmetrical bottom. The little things make all the difference.

Here's to wishing you an amazing week,
xx. Jillian

Raglan tee with a twist.

Diggin' raglan tees, especially when they're remixed with a more feminine bottom like this high waisted skirt.  I more often rock this tee with jeans & lipstick, but I wanted to switch things up. That day had a playful twist. OH! AND this skirt has pockets, which means... it pretty much rules.

Cut loose... Footloose!

I helped lead a youth group a few years ago & it was one of the most amazing experiences. Something awesome about it, is that now I get to see some of the kids we had do their thing in the world and it's an incredible feeling. Last week, the high school in my hometown put on the play Footloose. One of the kids that was in my youth group, Matt Gallitelli was the lead role of Ren and he rocked it. I was STUNNED. He carried the show with his voice & dance moves. I had no idea that he was so talented in the ways of drama! It was pretty awesome. Go you, Matt!

Of course, I had to rock some cowgirl boots & red for the show. I mean, c'mon, it's... Footloose!

Carol & I rockin' our dresses & boots in Mike's truck! Heck yeah.
Couldn't keep my feet still after the show. All I wanted to do is dance (but what else is new?) Too fun! These last photos make me really smile.

Spring sprint

Spent a morning walking through the woods & exploring the other day. I still can't believe spring is here already in March (even if it is 50 degrees outside this week). It's crazy... and I'm so diggin' it! Can't wait for the leaves to come back and the world to turn green again. Things are just so much happier when the world is green. I'm such a summer kid.

I'm trying to explore around a little everyday & take this all in while it lasts...xx. Jillian
